Lereshwa Secondary School

An introduction

Lereshwa was founded in 1994 to offer affordable secondary education to pupils from neighbouring primary schools. It is situated on the top of a hill on ground that was thought useless, but the community proved that through good farming techniques, trees can be grown.

What have we done?

Over recent years, Lereshwa has expanded rapidly from two 2-classroom blocks and a ramshackle administration block to a fully-fledged secondary school with four classroom blocks, a well stocked library, a science lab and a playing field. The school has a kitchen run on firewood that provides a morning snack and a full lunch for its 220 pupils.
The school constructed a new administration block (using Government funding). HSK funded a computer lab, further classrooms and a science lab. We are monitoring the school’s progress as a model for others in the area.

What’s the plan?

This school is now full to capacity and is in the process of building an assembly/dining hall with Government funding. Because of its remoteness this may become a boarding school.

There is an immediate need to re-equip the laboratories and expand the library’s book stock and HSK is seeking funds to facilitate this.
